What is Cat Finders all about?

Cat Finders is a volunteer, neighborhood effort to help reunite lost cats with their families in the state of New Hampshire.

Cat Finders' Mission

Cat Finders came into being because:

  • there are a lot of lost cats in our area
  • many of us find cats
  • it only stands to reason that some of these "found cats" are not strays, but are actually lost cats whose families may be searching for them.
  • Cat Finders hopes to make it easier for the person who has lost the cat and the person who has found the cat to find each other
  • For information about the concept of "Think lost, not stray" go to: http://www.missingpetpartnership.org/recovery-thinklost.php

Cat Finders is also intended as a resource for animal shelters, veterinarians, cat rescue agencies, police, animal control officers, and anyone else who comes across lost and found cats frequently. Hopefully, Cat Finders will make it easier for these cat helpers to discover where a cat belongs before investing a lot of time and money on medical care, food, etc. and before the cat is re-homed and thereby lost to the original family forever.

You are! Cat Finders is not a business, but a community project that includes everyone who is interested. The organizer and webmaster, Jessica, is located in Lee, NH. But it is the users of the site who make it work. If you have a lost or found cat, please check the site often to see if your cat is posted.

How does Cat Finders work?

First, email or phone Cat Finders with your lost or found cat information so we can post your cat's picture and info on the web site. Then, other cat lovers will become aware of your cat, and can:

  • notify you if they think they have seen your lost cat
  • keep an eye out for your lost cat while searching for their own
  • determine if a stray cat has a family searching for him or her

Please check Cat Finders frequently, as new lost or found cats are added daily. Don't rely on Cat Finders to notice if a cat reported as "Found" might be your lost cat, or vice versa. There are just too many cats posted for any one person to keep track. Also, photos of the same cat can often look very different from each other. We have never met your cat, so we may not recognize the cat as yours, but you will.

We ask that everyone who visits Cat Finders' website will watch for all of the cats missing in their town or area.

We may occasionally make group posters, usually for the Lee/Newmarket area. But you should make your own posters for your lost or found cat as soon as possible.

Feel free to print out the page of Cat Finders with your cat's listing on it. It is okay if there are other cats on the page too. You will be helping all of those cats and their families by spreading the word.

Please do not give us any information that you would not want on a printed poster, since everyone using Cat Finders has permission to post any and all cats on paper flyers, posters, etc. in an effort to help all of the missing cats. When you post flyers printed from the Cat Finders' website, please be considerate of other people's property, and take the flyers down again when appropriate.

This permission does not extend to the internet however. Please do not re-post anybody's lost/found cat info on any other website (except of course your own cat, or a cat you have found) without permission from the cat's family. The one exception to this is Twitter. You may use Twitter to send out alerts about lost or found cats you've seen on our site, but in order to protect your privacy and everyone else's, please do not use personal contact information, such as the "owner's" name, phone number, or email address in your tweet, but instead refer people back to Cat Finders, using the link www.catfinders.org or the just cut and paste the URL of the page where the cat is listed.
